Jurrien Timber has scored a world-class goal just eight minutes after his return from eight months on the sidelines due to a serious injury.

The Dutch international suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in Arsenal’s opening Premier League game, at home to Nottingham Forest, back in August – which has seen him sidelined ever since.

But the defender made his highly-anticipated return to action on Monday, for the club’s U21s, as they travelled to face Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League 2.

The 22-year-old started the game, and his return got off to the best start imaginable as he scored a sensational effort after just nine minutes of the game.

Speaking earlier today about Timber’s return, and whether he could be involved in this Sunday’s North London derby, Arteta said: “That’s a quick step. Let’s see how he feels today. He’s been training really good. He looks ready.

“He needs that exposure and after that, we’ll assess whether that game comes at the right time or too fast. We’ll try to get him with us for the final games.”

Fans were incredibly impressed with what little they saw of Timber during pre-season and the Community Shield, which makes his return hotly-anticipated to say the least – especially amid recent criticism of the Gunners’ left-back options.

With Timber returning, Arteta will hope to soon have a fully fit squad at his disposal, while many others in the Premier League contend with some degree of injury crises.

Jurrien Timber is expected to return to the first-team matchday squad when Arsenal face Bournemouth in the Premier League next month.
