Arsenal legend Ian Wright has backed Arsenal to pursue the signing of Evan Ferguson from Brighton ahead of the January transfer window.

Following the 19-year-old’s recent goal-scoring feat in Brighton’s triumphant 3-2 victory against Nottingham Forest last week, Ferguson’s record in the Premier League has reached an impressive six goals.

Ian Wright has indicated his desire for his former club to sign the talented striker in the near future with reports suggesting Arsenal have been intensitly scouting the Ireland international this year.

It appears Mikel Arteta believes an out-an-out striker is the next big signing needed to take the team to the next level, with the club looking for domestic and European success over the next few years.

Gabriel Jesus has been great under Mikel Arteta since signing for the club last summer, however his injury record has left the Gunners short at times with back-up option Eddie Nketiah struggling to find consistent form over the last year.

Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard can both also play as the main striker, but it looks like Mikel Arteta wants to dip into the market for another option ahead of next season.

Ferguson joining Arsenal would cement his status as a top striker. Ian Wright believes Ferguson is the prime target for Arsenal, referring to the teenager possessing all the essential attributes needed to succeed under Mikel Arteta.

Ian Wright commented during his podcast on Wrighty’s House: “Oh my gosh, there’s no way I’m not going to say I’d take him in a heartbeat. We will see how it goes.”

The Brighton striker stands out as a player with exceptional potential at just 19-years-old with the Irish star still in the early stages of his career.

There’s not many managers in the world right now better than Mikel Arteta at unlocking young players’ potentials so Evan Ferguson could well want to make a move to North London in the near future.
