Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has endured a challenging season plagued by a calf injury, resulting in minimal appearances on the pitch. Despite being recognised as one of the top central midfielders in the world when fully fit, his injury woes since joining Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020 have resulted in significant game absences for the Gunners.

Reports suggest that Partey came close to leaving England last summer, and recent speculation has illuminated uncertainties surrounding his future at Arsenal, hinting at a possible departure from the club this summer.

His sporadic playing time, compounded by the emergence of Declan Rice, has cast doubt on his continuation at the Emirates Stadium, with manager Mikel Arteta purportedly seeking to strengthen the midfield roster in the upcoming transfer window.

According to sources close to the midfielder, Real Sociedad has shown interest in signing the Ghanaian, and Partey himself is inclined towards a return to La Liga. While Sociedad is keen on securing his services, they are hesitant to exceed a €25 million (£21.5 million) fee, significantly lower than the £45 million Arsenal paid to sign him from Atletico Madrid. The report also says Partey could be interested in a move to the Saudi Pro League.

Partey’s tenure at Arsenal has been marred by frequent injuries, causing him to miss a total of 52 games for club and country since his arrival. While his absence would have previously impacted Arsenal’s form, the team’s dynamics have evolved since Rice’s arrival.

Despite being a remarkable player, the prevailing circumstances suggest that it might be the right time for Arsenal to consider parting ways with Partey. With Arteta eyeing midfield reinforcements and Partey’s limited involvement this season, his tenure in north London could be drawing to a close.

Arsenal are reportedly considering midfield reinforcements for the summer, with players like Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa, Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, and Amadou Onana from Everton being mentioned as potential targets on the club’s radar.
