Swansea City has returned back into the race to sign 22-year-old Arsenal midfielder Matt Smith for a fee up to £400k. An array of Championship teams are in for the midfielder on Deadline Day with QPR also interested, as per the Swansea Independent.
The salary of Matt Smith would be in the budget which Swansea City can afford and being from Arsenals academy and only having a price tag of £400k it seems a good deal for the Swans.
Matt Smith could struggle to get into a talented Swansea squad which includes Sam Leverett, Corey Hurford, Joel Cotterill and Azeem Abdulai but it would give Swansea needed squad depth to climb into the top half of the table.
Swansea manager, Russel Martin said that he wants players that will challenge for the first team despite Smith already having a number of loans at Swindon, Doncaster and Charlton. Due to the number of loans Smith already possesses, Russel Martin may end up using him as more of a squad player.
Matt Smith is a rated youth midfielder by Arsenal fans and has shown his quality during his loan spells, but the midfielder hasn’t quite got the cutting edge to make it as an Arsenal regular, so a permanent move to Swansea may be the correct decision for the 22-year-old.
