GOAL have reported that Arsenal are monitoring Mason Mount’s situation at Chelsea as The Gunners step up their summer transfer plans.

Mount has been linked heavily with Liverpool over the past month or so, with some suggesting that The Reds are frontrunners for Mount’s signature. However, it’s quite clear that Arsenal are also looking at midfield reinforcements – illustrated best by their January pursuit of Caicedo and subsequent interest in Declan Rice.

GOAL report that West Ham United captain Rice is still the priority target for Mikel Arteta’s side in the summer transfer window. However, Mason Mount, who is expected to leave the club in the summer, has also been discussed as a potential target too – with talks having taken place over the 24-year-old England international’s availability.

It is believed that Mount’s ability to play in a number of positions across the top half of the pitch is seen as an appealing option as Arsenal look to build a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts next season.

Whether Todd Boehly’s regime would be happy to let a homegrown England international like Mason Mount move across the capital to a big rival is the big question. Chelsea do have previous when it comes to selling some of their players to Arsenal – with the likes of Petr Cech, William Gallas and, more recently, Jorginho being sold by the Stamford Bridge club to The Gunners. However, Mason Mount is a different kettle of fish to those – who were generally seen as having their best years behind them by the time they left Chelsea.

Either way, it’d be interesting to see how serious Arsenal are about signing Mount. With reports earlier today suggesting that Aston Villa are in for Emile Smith Rowe, a player  who plays somewhat similar to Mount, it could make sense that Arteta and Edu are looking for a similar profile player to take that position within the first team squad.
