It’s been reported, Scottish side, Rangers are now keen on signing Arsenal defender Auston Trusty this summer.
According to the Daily Mail, Michael Beale wants to bring the American defender to Ibrox in the upcoming transfer window. Rangers are set for a return to the Champions League next season and will be looking to add more quality ahead of next season.
They lost all six group games in the Champions League this season and recorded one of the worst campaigns in the competition’s history. The side from Scotland will be looking to do a lot better this time around and Aston Trusty could be the man to help them do just that.
He’s been on loan at Birmingham City this season and has recently won the club’s player of the season award which shows how impressive he’s been during his first year in England.
The 24-year-old was signed at Arsenal last year from Colorado Rapids and could now leave the Gunners without making an appearance for the club.
According to the reports, Rangers are keen to get a deal done with Arsenal for around £2million, which would be profit on what the Gunners paid for him over a year ago.
Michael Beale will know all about Trusty from his time in the Championship with Queens Park Rangers. Not only did Trusty win both games against Beale’s old side, but he also scored for Birmingham City against QPR while he was manager.
Birmingham City have also been linked with signing Trusty permanently, but it’s hard to see how they’ll compete with the likes of Rangers who can offer the player Champions League football next season.
With Gabriel, William Saliba and recently signed Jakub Kiwior currently at the club, it’s hard to see how Trusty breaks into the Arsenal side so a move up north could suit the American well next season.
