It’s no secret Arsenal are in the market for a new striker considering the underperformance of Mikel Arteta’s current options. The Gunners were heavily linked with a move for Alexander Isak before he joined Newcastle in the summer of 2022 and they’re being linked again ahead of the summer window.

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has claimed the coaches within the club have been comparing Alexander Isak to Thierry Henry.

Alan Shearer on Isak: “I love Isak, not just because of who he plays for or the position he plays in, or his excellent record of 23 goals in 36 starts in all competitions, but because of how he does it.

“As a kid — he’s still only 24 — he was inevitably compared to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, another Swedish legend, but the comparison they make within Newcastle’s coaching staff is to Thierry Henry.

“You can see it in that blistering pace, the languid grace, that gorgeous, fluid movement.”

The 24-year-old showcased his amazing talent once again tonight as he scored a beautiful goal in Newcastle’s defeat against Manchester City at St James’ Park. Isak has scored ten goals in 16 Premier League appearances so far this season.

Newcastle have endured a difficult season up to this point, particularly with injuries, however Alexander Isak is one of the few players to have performed week in, week out for Eddie Howe.

Newcastle‘s chief executive Darren Eales suggested recently that his side may have to sell one of their best players in the future to fund moves for their key targets. Isak is their star man and it’s unlikely he will be sold at any cost, however that won’t stop Arsenal from trying.

Newcastle United signed Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad for £63m so he definitely won’t come cheap if the Gunners do attempt to sign the striker in the summer. Mikel Arteta was the one who wanted to sign him in 2022 and the Arsenal manager remains a huge fan of the player.

Arsenal are also looking at Dusan Vlahovic, Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen as striker options ahead of next season.
