The Premier League winter transfer window has been open for clubs to do crucial business for 22 days, but Arsenal are yet to make a signing to strengthen their ongoing title charge.
The North London outfit currently sit third in the Premier League table, and after the Gunners’ dip in form during the winter period, both Manchester City and Liverpool have overtook them since Christmas Day. Arteta’s side found themselves at the top of the tree on Christmas Day in 2022 too, but Manchester City beat them to the title, and as things stand, Arsenal are in for the same fate this campaign.
However, one of the many players that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are linked with in an attempt to climb the league ranks is 20 year-old, Xavi Simons, who is currently representing RB Leipzig whilst on loan from Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain. The versatile attacker has scored five goals and assisted seven in all competitions for ‘Die Roten Bullen’ this campaign, and has attracted the attention of many top European sides.
According to German journalist, Christian Falk, Leipzig’s fellow Bundesliga side, Bayern Munich is interested in the Dutch international. However, as things stand, the hierarchy of the reigning Bundesliga champions favour Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz.
When speaking to CaughtOffside, Falk also explained, ” So I think there will be other clubs that also knock on the door; Leipzig have heard of Bayern’s interest and interest from Arsenal. This could be one of the clubs. There are also rumours of Barcelona – but they have no money! Rumours of Inter Milan… I also think this wouldn’t be a No.1 option.”
However, the deciding factor in the possibility of Arteta’s side securing Simons’ signature is wether RB Leipzig can agree a wanted deal with PSG to extend the loan deal by an additional year, until 2025. Of course, a signing this January would prove extremely difficult, but the young prospect will bring excitement in windows to come.
