Arsenal have set a hefty price tag on Portuguese left-back Nuno Tavares if the player is to leave North London this summer.

Nuno Tavares signed for Arsenal at the start of the 2021/22 season from Portuguese side, Benfica for a fee of £7million. The left-back came in as a back-up option to Kieran Tierney, playing 28 times in all competitions during his first season for the Gunners, scoring one goal & grabbing two assists.

However last season was a different story with the signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko set to reduce his minutes drastically and as such the 23-year-old was allowed to go out on loan to Marseille in France for the 2022/23 campaign.

During his time at Marseille, Nuno Tavares played mainly as left-wing back, which seemed to work well for the player. His everlasting stamina and pace has allowed him to transom into a successful winger in France. The Arsenal loanee scored six goals in 31 appearances in Ligue One last season which should allow the Gunners to receive a decent fee if the player is to leave the club this summer.

Arsenal have recently agreed a fee with West Ham for club captain, Declan Rice however that isn’t the only piece of business the two clubs have been discussing. The Hammers also enquired about the availability of Nuno Tavares with David Moyes wanting to add another defender to his squad ahead of next season.

However Nuno Tavares seems to have turned down a move to the London Stadium as according to Tutto Mercato, The Arsenal left-back is waiting for a more important club, if he is to leave the Gunners this summer. It’s also been reported Arsenal are looking for at least £20million for the Portugal international.

Marseille have also looked into turning Nuno Tavares loan move into a more permanent one, but without the clause being inserted in the original loan agreement Tavares has since returned to London. Galatasaray are also said to be monitoring the situation, however it’s unlikely Tavares would want a move to Turkey at this stage of his career.

The Portuguese player has two years left on his contract at Arsenal but it seems that this may be the final year that he spends with Mikel Arteta’s squad.
