Monaco midfield star Youssouf Fofana has hinted at the possibility of a summer departure, keeping his options open as Arsenal and other top clubs circle for his signature.

The 25-year-old’s future hangs in the balance, contingent upon Monaco’s Champions League qualification this season.

Arsenal, eager to bolster their midfield options for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign, have identified Fofana as a potential solution to strengthen their squad. With standout performances in Ligue 1, Fofana has attracted interest from elite clubs across Europe, with Arsenal among those monitoring his situation closely.

Despite Monaco’s impressive league position, sitting second only behind champions Paris Saint-Germain, rumours abound regarding Fofana’s potential exit from Stade Louis II. The French international, capped 17 times, had previously contemplated a move last year but opted to remain with Monaco for another season, despite interest from Fulham.

Fofana’s future remains uncertain, with clubs such as PSG, Atletico Madrid, and AC Milan also expressing interest in securing his services. Speaking on his future plans, Fofana stated, “We haven’t dwelt on it. We’ll see what happens when we come back for pre-season.

“He will allow me to finish the season so that there aren’t too many things in my head and if I then go to the Euros with the France national team, we will speak about it upon my return. We haven’t dwelt on it.”

The midfielder’s decision may hinge on Monaco’s final league position, as Champions League qualification could play a key role in his next career move. With just over a year left on his current contract, Monaco face the dilemma of cashing in on Fofana this summer or risking losing him on a free transfer in 12 months.

Named in Didier Deschamps’ France squad for recent friendlies against Germany and Chile, Fofana aims to maintain his place in the team for the upcoming European Championships in Germany.
