Arsenal midfielder, Granit Xhaka is set to put an end to his time in North London after agreeing to join German side, Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
The 30-year-old was brought to the Emirates Stadium by former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger seven years ago. He’s one of three players still standing from the Wenger era alongside Mohamed Elneny and Rob Holding, however that looks like it’s about to change ahead of next season.
Granit Xhaka’s move to Germany was all but done, with the Swiss getting the perfect send-off against Wolves in Arsenal’s last game of the season on the weekend. The midfielder scored a brace as “we’ve got Granit Xhaka” rung around the Emirates Stadium throughout the game, and after full-time with it set to be the players’ last game for the club.
“Granit Xhaka, we want you to stay” was also chanted by the Arsenal fans at some points during the final day, which represents how well Granit Xhaka has turned his career around in North London, after what happened in the same stadium against Crystal Palace three years ago.

The Swiss midfielder has enjoyed his most successful season to date after being moved to a more attacking midfield role at the beginning of the 22/23 campaign. Xhaka has been involved in 16 goals across all competitions this season for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Granit Xhaka’s move to Bayer Leverkusen is still on, however it’s taken a little bit of a twist compared to what was expected to happen a week ago. With one-year remaining on his contract, an exit is still Granit Xhaka’s most likely destination this summer, although his move has currently been put on hold by Mikel Arteta.
According to a report from German outlet Kicker, Mikel Arteta is keen to bring in a replacement before letting Xhaka leave the club this summer. The deal itself is reportedly complete, with a fee of £15million agreed between the two clubs, however the Arsenal boss is yet to give the green light for the move to go through until the Gunners have a replacement sorted out.
Declan Rice is a top priority for the north London outfit this summer, while Moises Caicedo, Mason Mount and Ilkay Gundogan are just a few other names that have been linked.
Arsenal are currently waiting until West Ham have played in the Europa Conference League final then they make their move for club captain, Declan Rice. The final is on the 7th June which means Xhaka’s transfer to Germany is on hold until then at the earliest.
