Former Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre has advised Mikel Arteta to revive the club’s interest in 23-year-old Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, encouraging a potential pursuit during the current transfer window.

Vlahovic, who was at the top of Arsenal’s wishlist in the winter of 2022 while at Fiorentina, eventually joined Juventus in a €62.5 million deal.

Despite his move to the Turin-based giants, Vlahovic has faced challenges making an impact, scoring only 44 goals for Juventus over three years. Italian football legend Antonio Cassano recently criticised the striker’s decision to join Juventus, suggesting he should have opted for an intermediate step with a team like Arsenal, Tottenham, or Sevilla.

He stated, “I don’t think they can afford him financially. Based on ability and technically he’s excellent. We would have to deal with Juventus, which isn’t easy. Would he be a good buy? Yes, 100%. I don’t think it will happen unless they can get him on loan.”

While emphasising that a winter transfer might be more realistic for the summer, Silvestre urged Arsenal to consider Vlahovic as a valuable addition to their squad.

Dusan Vlahovic’s current Serie A performance in the 2023/2024 season adds weight to Silvestre’s suggestion. The striker has scored 11 goals in 19 matches, with six goals at home and five away. His goals-per-90-minutes ratio stands at 0.8, showcasing his prolific goal-scoring ability.

Additionally, Vlahovic’s total goals and assists (G/A) for the season is 14, resulting in a goal involvement of 1.02 per 90 minutes. His non-penalty expected goals (npxG) per 90 minutes is 0.48, positioning him in the top 98 percentile of Serie A players.
