Matteo Guendouzi played 82 times during his two year spell while at Arsenal from 2018 to 2020. The majority of them games came under Unai Emery, the man who brought him to The Emirates in the first place & it looks like he’s trying to buy the French midfielder again…
Aston Villa boss Unai Emery is keen to reunite with former Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi with a bid of around £30m expected to be submitted soon, according to Ben Jacobs.

When Mikel Arteta replaced Unai Emery as Arsenal boss in 2019 that was the beginning of the end for Guendouzi’s career at Arsenal. The 23-year-old played in Arsenal’s first two games following the resumption of the Premier League season in June 2020. However, the second of those matches against Brighton ended up being his last for the club after he grabbed Neal Maupay by the throat at full-time of the 2-1 defeat.
That proved to be the last straw for Mikel Arteta who ended up loaning out and eventually selling the midfielder due to his poor attitude.
While in France, Guendouzi admitted his relationship with the Spanish manager was not “the best”.
“It’s true that I didn’t have the best relationship with Artetal. He preferred other players and I respect that decision. That’s why, afterwards, I also decided to leave because I was still young, I needed playing time to continue to progress. The most important when you’re young is to play.”
A move back to the Premier League would make an interesting return, especially for a player who has unfinished business here.
