According to the latest reports, Cardiff City have joined Luton Town in the race to sign Arsenal young star, Charlie Patino this summer. According to Darren Witcoop, the Bluebirds are set to compete for the 19-year-old as the club look to improve their first-team squad ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
Arsenal legend, Aaron Ramsey has recently rejoined Cardiff City after leaving OGC Nice in France at the end of last season. A midfield pairing of the Welsh maestro and a young star in Charlie Patino could be the spark needed for Cardiff City to push for Premier League promotion once again next season.
Interest in the player is beginning to grow, with the youngsters’ future looking elsewhere ahead of next season. Following Patino’s successful loan spell at Blackpool in the Championship during the 2022/23 campaign, he is now looking for more regular first-team football again, something which Mikel Arteta can’t offer him at the Emirates Stadium.
Cardiff and Luton are just two of many teams in England keeping a close eye on the 19-year-old this summer, as well as clubs in Germany and Spain.
Arsenal are demanding a buy-back clause in the deal to sell Patino, as well as a sell-on clause. The Gunners aren’t prepared to let go of the talented youngster that easily with Mikel Arteta a big fan of the player.
Cardiff are currently under a transfer embargo that means they are unable to complete any permanent transfers this summer, which only makes matters more difficult. However the interest is there and it remains to be seen what kind of structure the Bluebirds can put together to convince the Gunners into a deal.
With Premier League clubs, like Luton Town, interested in the player, it’s unlikely Patino would accept a deal to play Championship football again next season. Although he would be a regular starter for the Bluebirds, alongside Aaron Ramsey, if he was to go there, something which other teams may not be able to offer him at just 19-years-old.
Charlie Patino is expected to leave North London ahead of next season, and although many clubs are tracking the player closely, no deal is close to being completed yet.
