The Kylian Mbappe transfer saga is set to derail a key transfer plan for Arsenal this summer, with the Gunners likely to miss out on a highly-rated youngster.

Xavi Simons has spent the 2023/24 season on loan at RB Leipzig after joining Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) last summer from PSV Eindhoven.

In the Bundesliga, Simons has so far scored seven goals and created nine assists, and the 20-year-old has earned plaudits as one of the most exciting young stars in world football.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for the Dutchman for some time now, having held rumoured interest in him since his time in Holland, though a move never materialised before he joined PSG.

But while these rumours have persisted ahead of the summer transfer window, the Gunners’ plan to sign Simons looks in serious jeopardy because of the departure of Mbappe from the French giants, in a big blow to Arsenal.

It has been reported that in the event of losing Mbappe, who is expected to join Real Madrid in a free transfer, PSG will do everything in their power to keep hold of Simons as they look to rebuild ahead of next season, and a new era without Mbappe.

The Gunners are said to have several alternative targets in mind, however, including young Atheltic Club star Nico Williams, who could be available for around £43m this summer.
