Journalist Charles Watts has revealed Arsenal ‘s plans for the upcoming summer transfer window, suggesting the club is poised to make significant changes, particularly in the goalkeeper department.

With speculation swirling around potential departures, Arsenal appear prepared to address one position with two signings, according to Watts. The Gunners are gearing up for what promises to be a busy transfer period, with a host of players reportedly on the chopping block.

Thirteen Arsenal players, including Cedric Soares and Mohamed Elneny, are likely to bid farewell to the Emirates Stadium as their contracts expire this summer. Additionally, academy graduates Eddie Nketiah, Emile Smith Rowe, and Reiss Nelson face uncertain futures, with the club open to offers for their services.

The goalkeeping situation is also under scrutiny, with Aaron Ramsdale expected to seek opportunities elsewhere after losing his starting spot to David Raya, who impressed on loan from Brentford. Arsenal are reportedly prepared to shell out £27 million to secure Raya’s permanent signature, signalling his ascension to the No. 1 role under Mikel Arteta.

While Raya’s performances haven’t been flawless, his status as Arteta’s preferred choice suggests a long-term commitment from the club. Ramsdale, meanwhile, faces the prospect of limited opportunities and may seek a move for the sake of his career and international aspirations.

Watts highlighted Arsenal’s intention to make two goalkeeper signings, with Raya set to be joined by another addition to replace Ramsdale, should he depart. The club are keen to avoid past mistakes and ensure that any new signing is capable of fitting seamlessly into their tactical setup.

Speaking on his Inside Arsenal YouTube channel, Watt said “Arsenal are going to sign a goalkeeper, but it will be a No. 2 to replace Ramsdale, if Ramsdale goes. Raya will be Arsenal’s No. 1 next season. He will sign. Arsenal will spend £27 million to make that deal permanent and sign him in the summer, it’s going to happen.

“They will sign a goalkeeper, probably sign two goalkeepers. One of them will be David Raya on a permanent deal, and the other one will be to replace Aaron Ramsdale.”
