Declan Rice will leave West Ham United this summer with Arsenal and Manchester City going head-to-head for the players’ signature.
Arsenal have lead the race for Declan Rice for the majority of the summer transfer window. Just like the Gunners lead the way in the Premier League for the most part of last season, however this time they’re hoping for a different result up against Manchester City.
Despite two rejected bids and Manchester City entering the race, Arsenal remain confident they will get a deal wrapped up for their number one target very soon. Edu and his team are preparing a third bid to West Ham for their club captain which is expected to reach a total package of £100million.
Despite recent reports suggesting Manchester City have entered the race, they are still yet to submit a formal bid for the player meaning Arsenal still have the advantage as long as they can get a deal wrapped up quickly.

Mikel Arteta is desperate for Arsenal to bring in Declan Rice this summer as it would be a huge statement from the club and would give them a huge boost as they look to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title once again next season. The West Ham captain is said to want Arsenal over any other team and is waiting for the two teams to agree on a fee so he can complete his wanted move to North London.
There is hope as Jacob Steinberg from The Guardian has presented two main reasons why Declan Rice may prefer a move to Arsenal over City.
The first reason is the fact that Declan Rice’s preference is to remain in London. This is where the player has lived his entire life and ideally wants to stay in the capital if possible. It’s thought that he is close with his family, which may come decisive in which club he plays for next season.
Secondly, Rice feels like he will get more game time at Arsenal. This is obvious since at Arsenal, he’d essentially start every game and be a very important player for Mikel Arteta’s side. That is one of the reasons why Arsenal are so confident of signing the England international, despite Manchester City’s interest – because when Mikel Arteta presented his ideas to the 24-year-old, he got very excited and that’s why Arsenal remain his first choice this summer.
