Renowned sports broadcaster Jeff Stelling has weighed in on the future destination of Ivan Toney, suggesting that the Brentford striker should consider Tottenham over Arsenal, asserting that he doesn’t envision Toney as a fit for the Gunners.

Toney’s impressive performances for Brentford, particularly in their promotion-winning campaign from the Championship, have garnered attention from top clubs as his contract nears its end. With speculation swirling about his next move, Arsenal have been linked with a potential £40 million bid to bolster their attacking options.

However, Stelling opined on TalkSport that Tottenham might be a better fit for Toney, especially given their need to fill the void left by Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich. He emphasised Toney’s versatility and goal-scoring prowess, suggesting that he could seamlessly slot into the Spurs lineup.

“My next thought is about Ivan Toney. We know, we know, I don’t need to be worried about being disrespectful because we know he is going to be on the move. We were talking about Spurs for Eberechi Eze, but Ivan Toney. No, I don’t see him as an Arsenal player, I don’t see him joining any of the top four as they are now.”

Stelling highlighted Toney’s role as a complete forward and suggested that Tottenham could benefit from his abilities across the pitch. With Toney being touted as a potential successor to Kane, Stelling believes that Tottenham should prioritise signing the Brentford star.

“Toney is pretty much the finished article, but I think the obvious choice for Ivan Toney is Tottenham. I think if they want somebody who is the nearest thing you can get to a Harry Kane, who can influence the game in all areas of the pitch, who scores goals as well, come deep, he can lead the line brilliantly.”

Despite Brentford’s reluctance to part ways with their prized asset, manager Thomas Frank has acknowledged the inevitability of Toney’s departure this summer. Frank praised Toney’s abilities and acknowledged the interest he is likely to attract from various clubs, hinting at a significant transfer fee for the striker.
