There are fresh reports that three Italian clubs are still interested in Arsenal midfield maestro, Jorginho in the summer.

With his current deal set to expire at the end of the season, Arsenal are reportedly preparing to initiate contract negotiations with the 32-year-old midfielder, who arrived from Chelsea in a £12 million deal back in January 2023, signing a one-and-a-half-year contract with an option for extension.

Jorginho’s stellar performances in recent matches, notably earning the man of the match title in Arsenal’s 4-1 victory over Newcastle, have garnered significant interest from clubs in his native Italy ahead of the summer transfer window.

Among the suitors vying for his signature are Juventus, Lazio, and Napoli, each impressed by Jorginho’s skillset and experience. His agent, Joao Santos, hinted at potential destinations, citing Lazio as a favourable option due to the presence of coach Maurizio Sarri, who is well-acquainted with Jorginho’s abilities.

“He’d suit Lazio more, for the presence of coach [Maurizio] Sarri who already knows his characteristics very well,” Jorginho’s agent, Joao Santos, told TV Play in Italy.

“But also Juve, who have a great director of sport like Cristiano Giuntoli, who he spent many years with at Napoli. I would not rule out a return to Napoli with new coach [Francesco] Calzona, who used to work with Sarri before that.”

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed admiration for Jorginho, praising his impact on and off the pitch. Arteta highlighted Jorginho’s role in guiding Arsenal’s young squad in their pursuit of Champions League and Premier League success.

Following Arsenal’s triumph over Newcastle, Arteta lauded Jorginho as a “top player,” emphasising his contributions to the team’s performance. Despite the impending competition for spots in the starting lineup, particularly with Thomas Partey’s return to fitness, Arteta remains confident in Jorginho’s abilities to maintain his place in the team.

Arteta said: “He’s a top player, especially when the opponents have certain behaviours or certain set-up. The way I can imagine the game, he is going to have a big impact, but I think you have to do it at this level and when he’s not playing consistently, credit to him because he was magnificent today again.

“He is certainly [world-class] but I think individually today we were outstanding in the way we played and we raised the bar again.”
