Former Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is casting doubt on Emile Smith Rowe’s future at Arsenal, suggesting that the talented midfielder may be on the verge of a departure from the club this month.

Smith Rowe, a product of Arsenal’s Hale End academy, has faced a lack of opportunities this season, featuring in just six Premier League appearances, totaling less than two hours of game time. Despite showcasing his quality in the past, the 23-year-old finds himself behind players like Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard in the pecking order under manager Mikel Arteta.

Pardew believes that, given Smith Rowe’s current circumstances and the need for regular playing time, a move away from Arsenal could be in the cards. The former manager expressed his expectations on talkSPORT, stating, “Emile Smith Rowe is a strange one. You have to suspect that he is going to go in this window.”

Highlighting Smith Rowe’s potential impact, Pardew added, “He will be a fantastic signing for anybody who is not in the top six. I think he will get in any team in the bottom half of the Premier League and take you up a level because he has got a technical level that is phenomenal.”

The midfielder’s situation at Arsenal is a perplexing one, considering his significant contributions in the 2021/22 season when he was a key part of the team, netting 10 top-flight goals. However, recent struggles for consistent playing time and competition with other players have led to uncertainties about his future.

While Arteta has assured fans of Smith Rowe’s place in his plans and promised more game time in the future, Pardew’s comments raise questions about the veracity of such statements. The 23-year-old’s departure would undoubtedly be a blow for Arsenal fans, as a homegrown talent who has been with the club since the age of ten.

As the transfer window unfolds, Arsenal supporters will anxiously wait to see if Smith Rowe’s future lies away from the Emirates Stadium. The uncertainty surrounding the midfielder’s situation adds intrigue to Arsenal’s transfer dynamics and raises speculation about where Smith Rowe may showcase his undeniable talent next.
