Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has shared update as Arsenal continue chase of a £112m worth striker ahead of the summer transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano has dismissed reports suggesting that Arsenal have surpassed Chelsea in the race to sign Super Eagles of Nigeria and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen.

While it’s widely acknowledged that both Arsenal and Chelsea, alongside Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), have shown interest in acquiring the services of the Napoli star, recent rumors implied that Arsenal and PSG had taken the lead over Chelsea in the pursuit of the CAF Men’s Player of the Year.

Speculation intensified as reports hinted at Chelsea’s apprehensions about potentially missing out on the 25-year-old, despite their extensive efforts to persuade him to join the club.

However, Romano clarified the situation during his Daily Briefing for Caughtoffside, asserting that there has been no significant progress in the race for Osimhen’s signature.

“Guys, there’s nothing new on Victor Osimhen so far despite reports that Arsenal are ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign him,” Romano stated. “There is no ‘moving ahead’ because it’s not a proper race. There’s no negotiation with Napoli as there’s a release clause, so it’s about paying that money and reaching an agreement with Osimhen. At the moment no club is close to that.”

Romano emphasised that while interest from multiple clubs has persisted for months, no substantial developments have emerged in the ongoing saga.

It appears that Napoli has resigned themselves to the probability of losing the Nigerian international during the summer transfer window, with Osimhen’s potential departure contingent upon a club activating his release clause.

Osimhen, who has netted 13 goals across all competitions for Napoli this season, remains a highly sought-after talent in the transfer market. Until a concrete deal is finalised, his future will continue to be a subject of intense speculation.
