Arsenal have been linked with a whole host of players over the first week of the January transfer window. Many people think the Gunners should be targeting a new striker this month, with the likes of Ivan Toney, Dusan Vlahovic and Dominic Solanke all being linked with a move to North London.

Others think Mikel Arteta should strengthen his options in midfield, however according to Fabrizio Romano, there’s another signing in another position that is now a real possibility for the Gunners.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Arsenal are in the market for a new full-back this month, following the most recent injury to Oleksandr Zinchenko. Mikel Arteta has been dealing with a mini injury crisis at the back for the majority of the season with the likes of Takehrio Tomiyasu, Thomas Partey and Jurrien Timber all suffering injuries at some point over the past few months.

Fabrizio Romano on Arsenal’s transfer plans: “A new full-back for Arsenal? Yes it is a possibility, it is a possibility for Arsenal to bring in a new full-back in January.

“They have to see what opportunity they can find, if it’s a loan deal, but Arsenal are exploring options in that position, they are in the full-backs market, I can confirm that, there is a possibility, there is a chance, we will have to see, but I think it’s a possibility.”

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Ajax defender, Jorrel Hato already in January. The 17-year-old has featured in every game for Ajax so far this season, while holding the record as the youngest captain in the club’s history.

Hato isn’t the only full-back the Gunners are currently looking at with scouts recently watching Ferdi Kadioglu of Fenerbahce. Arsenal are expected to approach the Turkish side soon to discuss a move for the versatile defender. Kadioglu can play on either side of the defence, as well as a winger.

Arsenal face Liverpool in the FA Cup this weekend without a fit left-back in the squad. Tomiyasu is away with Japan, while Zinchenko is still recovering from a calf injury. Mikel Arteta clearly wants more depth in the defensive area before the January window shuts in three weeks time.
