Despite breaking the club record fee when purchasing Declan Rice last season, Arsenal may have to re-enter the midfield market this summer, with the likes of Martin Zubimendi, Douglas Luiz and Khéphren Thuram all linked.

Although their new £105million signing has been consistently brilliant in red and white, the same can’t be said about his midfield counterpart, Thomas Partey, who has missed a staggering 68 games since joining the Gunners. Also, 32 year-old Jorginho’s current deal expires in just four months time, and despite Arsenal having the opportunity to extend for a year, the Gunners have began to seek long-term replacements in the transfer window.

With that said, one player on Mikel Arteta’s radar to replace the Ghanaian is 22 year-old Khéphren Thuram, the son of Lilian Thuram and brother of current Inter Milan forward, Marcus Thuram. The midfielder has impressed for Nice in Ligue 1 this season, and has caught the eye of Europe’s elite, such as Liverpool and Manchester United.

However, Fabrizio Romano responded to the interest for CaughtOffside in his latest column of the Daily Briefing:

“We’ve heard a lot about Arsenal wanting to sign a new midfielder in the summer, and one of the latest names being linked with them is Khéphren Thuram of Nice.”

“My understanding is that it’s not something concrete so far, Arsenal have made no decision yet. I can still mention Martin Zubimendi and Douglas Luiz as names on their list, but we’ll have to wait and see who they decide to go for.

“There is currently no news also on Thuram as it will also depend on how much Nice will ask for him – his price tag has not been decided yet.”

In the summer, L’Équipe revealed that Nice valued the youngster at €60million, and after his impressive campaign so far, it is expected that price will increase. With Arsenal reportedly targeting both a defender and a traditional striker already, the Gunners may opt for a cheaper midfielder to ensure they can do efficient business in all departments.
