Arsenal have made Newcastle striker Alexander Isak the club’s number one attacking target this summer. The Gunners want to recruit the Swedish international ahead of other options including Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney.

Newcastle United will be reluctant in letting Isak leave, after signing the player in the summer of 2022 from Real Sociedad for £63million.

It’s our understanding Arsenal, and especially Mikel Arteta, have been admirers of Isak since he moved to Spain in 2019. The North London outfit were heavily linked with the player before he joined Newcastle and the Gunners interest hasn’t gone away.

It’s thought the 24-year-old would be open to a move to the Emirates Stadium if the two clubs could agree on a fee ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. However Isak’s current contract with the Magpies runs until 2028 which makes it a very difficult deal for Arsenal to pull off this summer.

Despite Newcastle’s poor season, Isak has enjoyed a relatively successful campaign, scoring 12 goals in 20 Premier League appearances so far this term. There’s no doubt the Swedish international would offer Mikel Arteta something completely different in attack if he was to make the switch to North London.

Isak has elite pace and power which has recently drawn him comparisons to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Alan Shearer on Isak: “I love Isak, not just because of who he plays for or the position he plays in, or his excellent record of 23 goals in 36 starts in all competitions, but because of how he does it.

“As a kid — he’s still only 24 — he was inevitably compared to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, another Swedish legend, but the comparison they make within Newcastle’s coaching staff is to Thierry Henry.

“You can see it in that blistering pace, the languid grace, that gorgeous, fluid movement.”

The Newcastle striker is tall, fast, powerful and deadly in front of goal. At 24-years-old it’s no surprise Arsenal are after him, but whether it’s a deal that’s possible this summer remains to be seen.

Newcastle‘s chief executive Darren Eales suggested recently that his side may have to sell one of their best players in the future to fund moves for their key targets. Isak is their star man and it’s unlikely he will be sold at any cost, however that won’t stop Arsenal from trying.

Arsenal are also looking at Dusan Vlahovic, Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen as striker options ahead of next season.
