Austrian side Sturm Graz are considering a permanent transfer for Arsenal striker Mika Biereth after being thoroughly impressed by his performance during his loan spell.

Biereth, 21, joined Sturm Graz in January on loan after his previous stint at Motherwell was cut short. Since his arrival, he has made a significant impact, scoring twice in his first four appearances for the club.

Despite the absence of an option-to-buy clause in the loan agreement, Sturm Graz are eager to retain Biereth’s services beyond the summer. Andreas Schicker, the sporting director of Sturm Graz, expressed his satisfaction with Biereth’s performance, highlighting his seamless integration into the team despite initial challenges in understanding the club’s playing style.

Schicker told Tipsbladet, “It has been a really good start. He arrived late to our training camp in Turkey, but he still scored in his very first training match.”

“He has been well received by his teammates, and my impression is that he is happy to be here, even though he obviously lacks some understanding of our playing style. It’s completely normal for it to be like this, and we are very happy with Mika so far.

He further stated the club’s intent to explore the possibility of extending Biereth’s stay, notwithstanding Arsenal’s reluctance to include a purchase option in the loan deal.

“Arsenal was not willing to include an option to buy, but nevertheless, we will still explore the possibility of keeping Mika longer than the summer. Right now, we are just focusing on having a really skilled attacker that we can benefit from in the current half-season. What happens next, time will tell.”

Biereth’s journey to Sturm Graz has been marked by stints in the Netherlands and Scotland, catching the attention of the Austrian club during his time with Arsenal’s Under-21 team. The opportunity arose for Biereth to join Sturm Graz when the club’s striker, Seedy Jatta, suffered an injury in January. Schicker expressed his delight at securing Biereth’s services swiftly, underscoring the striker’s importance to the team’s current campaign.

“He was already on our radar when he played for Arsenal’s Under-21 team. Since then, he has been on loan in both Holland and Scotland.

“We have been in continuous contact with his representatives, and when our striker Seedy Jatta got injured in January, we contacted Mika, and we are extremely happy that we could reach an agreement so quickly.”

While focusing on maximizing Biereth’s contribution for the remainder of the season, Sturm Graz remains optimistic about the prospect of negotiating a permanent move for the talented attacker. The decision, however, awaits further developments as the season progresses.
