Arsenal technical director Edu Gaspar has reportedly embarked on a trip to Saudi Arabia ahead of the summer transfer window, as Arsenal seek more information from the breakout league.

Edu and his assistant, Jason Ayto, visited Saudi Arabia last week but, according to David Ornstein, potential player sales were not discussed on the trip.

Instead, the duo had a ‘meet-and-greet’ trip in the Kingdom, with a focus on getting to know the key Saudi personnel as well as the Saudi Pro League (SPL)’s processes.

Arsenal are yet to ‘cash in’ on the seemingly hyper-inflated Saudi market, whereas other clubs have already brought in hundreds of millions in player sales to the league.

The Gunners are, however, thought to have at least one player, Thomas Partey, who is drawing high interest from the SPL – and the club could be willing to sanction the midfielder’s sale this summer.

Ben Jacobs has reported that SPL dealmakers have set aside an eye-watering £2b in the hope of luring five or six marque signings to Saudi Arabia this summer, which makes Edu’s trip to the country understandable.

Gabriel Jesus is another star that the Gunners may look to cash in on this summer, with the SPL offering a highly lucrative market, while the club had to fend off fierce interest from Al-Ittihad for defender Gabriel Magalhaes last summer.
