According to Mail Sport, Newcastle United have reportedly reignited their interest in Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale in anticipation of a potential summer transfer.

Ramsdale is eager to secure regular playing time in the Premier League once again, having found himself relegated to an understudy role following the arrival of David Raya from Brentford. As he weighs his options, Newcastle emerges among the interested parties, aiming to reinforce their squad.

The Magpies lost Nick Pope to a serious injury after the 31-year-old dislocated his shoulder while diving to his left against Manchester United in early December, and was initially given a prognosis of four to five months out after requiring surgery.

Pope suffered a setback in January after attempting to step up his rehabilitation but the issue has not made any significant difference to his return date.

Currently, Martin Dubravka holds the position of the number one goalkeeper at Newcastle, with Nick Pope expected to return by the end of April. However, with Dubravka at 35 and Pope turning 32 this month, Newcastle seeks a younger alternative as they strategise their recruitment plans for the future.

Eddie Howe, who previously signed Ramsdale during his tenure at Bournemouth from Sheffield United, holds a high regard for the goalkeeper.

Ramsdale’s journey saw him move from Sheffield United to Arsenal in 2021 for £30 million after being repurchased by Sheffield United for £18.5 million. Despite an impressive debut season with Arsenal, Mikel Arteta brought in Raya from Brentford to intensify competition and for his superior distribution skills, a move that has proven fruitful as Arsenal once again contends for the title.

Mindful of Ramsdale’s readiness to seek new opportunities, Arsenal have also been scouting Columbus Crew goalkeeper Patrick Schulte. The course of Ramsdale’s potential move may hinge on the asking price set by Arsenal. Nevertheless, Newcastle have expressed their interest and are poised to strengthen their goalkeeping position ahead of the new season.
