Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has confirmed the existence of a release clause for a key Arsenal transfer target ahead of the summer transfer window.

Bruno Guimaraes has been increasingly linked with a possible move to Arsenal this summer and, after reports that the Brazilian has a release clause in his contract, his manager has now confirmed the existence of such a clause.

Speaking ahead of his side’s game against Sheffield United on Saturday, Howe conceded: “Having that was well planned and structured by the club, in a sense that there’s a sort of finish point. We don’t want constant speculation, it’s not healthy for the player or for us.”

Howe continued: “It goes without saying we want to keep him, I want to build our team around him. His form has been very good and he seems very happy and settled.

“He’ll be thinking about a very busy summer ahead, where hopefully we can take the team, with him a big part of it. But we aren’t in control of that so let’s see.”

The 26-year-old’s release clause will reportedly, according to Fabrizio Romano, be valid from the last week of May until the start of the last week of June, and be worth an eye-watering £100m.

Guimaraes is not the Gunners’ only midfield option, however, with Martin Zubimendi and Douglas Luiz both also understood to be under serious consideration ahead of a summer move.
