Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has hinted that Aaron Ramsdale may seek opportunities elsewhere this summer, with Chelsea and West Ham emerging as potential destinations for the shot-stopper.

Ramsdale, 26, has found himself playing second fiddle to Arsenal’s current No. 1, David Raya, during the current season. Raya, on loan from Brentford, is expected to make a permanent move to Arsenal at the end of the season, prompting speculation about Ramsdale’s future at the club.

Despite an impressive stint last season, where he played a key role in Arsenal’s challenge for the Premier League title and earned four caps for England, Ramsdale has seen limited action this season, starting just 11 games across all competitions.

Seaman, an icon for both Arsenal and England, believes Ramsdale should seek opportunities elsewhere to further his career. He suggests that a move across London to either Chelsea or West Ham could provide Ramsdale with the chance for more regular first-team action.

While Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez has been their primary goalkeeper for much of the season, doubts linger over his performance, as well as the return of Kepa Arrizabalaga from loan at Real Madrid. At West Ham, Alphonse Areola has been reliable between the posts, but Ramsdale could be viewed as an upgrade for incoming manager Julen Lopetegui.

Discussing Ramsdale’s potential departure from Arsenal, Seaman told Parimatch, “You aren’t going to develop being a number two. You’re going to get left behind in the pecking order because other goalkeepers will start playing.”

Acknowledging Ramsdale’s talent, Seaman expressed both his fondness as an Arsenal fan and his desire to see the goalkeeper progress in his career. “When I’m looking at it, I think he could go to somewhere like Chelsea to give himself a better shot of getting first-team action. I think there are a few clubs who he would suit, maybe someone like West Ham too,” Seaman added.

Despite Arsenal boasting the best defensive record in the Premier League this season, conceding just 28 goals in 37 games, their title hopes hinge on Manchester City slipping up against either Tottenham or West Ham. If both sides win their remaining fixtures, City will finish two points above Arsenal, denying them their first title since 2004.
