Arsenal are constantly looking at ways to improve the team with the centre-back position being one area Mikel Arteta is keen to add some quality in depth in, especially with the return of Champions League football this season.

One name which has been speculated to be on Edu’s shopping list come the end of the season is Crystal Palace defender, Marc Guehi.

Arsenal already have a strong core of English talent within the squad with the likes of Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White Declan Rice, Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka and it looks like Mikel Arteta is keen to add more homegrown talent to his squad over the upcoming transfer windows.

According to Alan Nixon, Arsenal are in the race to sign Marc Guehi. The Gunners know the player won’t be for sale midway through the season, but they are willing to wait until the summer when a bidding war will most likely take place for the centre-back.

The 23-year-old defender is said to be part of Mikel Arteta’s long-term plans, but the club will face competition from Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea for his signature.

The fall from first place in the Premier League for Arsenal last season largely came down to the absence of French defender William Saliba who picked up a long-term lower back injury in February. This gave Manchester City the advantage in the title race and the Arsenal boss is clearly keen to make sure the same thing doesn’t occur in the future.

The proven Premier League defender has 82 league appearances under his belt for the South London outfit Crystal Palace. From rising through the Chelsea ranks, spending two years on loan at Swansea to becoming a Premier League proven centre back.

The robust England international however has his contract at the Eagles set until 2026 which will therefore allow Palace to ask for a substantial fee if willing to sell their star defender. The amount of game time the Gunners could offer Guehi could also have an impact on whether the deal will get done.
