Arsenal have recently shown interest in teenage wonderkid David Odogu who is currently playing his football for VfL Wolfsburg. The 17-year-old centre back is regarded as one of the most exciting talents in Germany, with a number of Premier League clubs showing interest in the player.

However it now appears the teenager is set to stay in Germany as VfL Wolfsburg are reportedly working on offering the 17-year-old his first professional contract, amid speculation of a move away.

According to the Daily Mail, the German side are working on signing David Odogu down to a new long-term contract in an attempt to scare off potential suitors. Arsenal have been tracking the young defender for some time, with the player yet to make his senior debut for Wolfsburg.

Brentford, Chelsea and Leicester City have also all been linked with a move for the 17-year-old this year.

It’s well known Arsenal are in the market for a new defender this month following the injuries to Jurrien Timber, Thomas Partey and more recently Oleksandr Zinchenko.

As well as David Odogu, the Gunners have also been linked with a move for Ajax teenager Jorrel Hato, however it appears the club have been dealt another transfer blow in that regard.

Ajax technical director speaking on Arsenal target Jorrel Hato today: “We would like him to stay and we are also hopeful that we will get it new contract out of him. It may have taken too long, but there have also been changes in our management. But I am hopeful that we will get it out of him.”

With David Odogu set to stay in Germany and Ajax determined to keep hold of Jorrel Hato, it appears Arsenal will have to look elsewhere in their search for a new defender this month.
