Chelsea have made contact with Ajax over the potential signing of midfielder, Mohammed Kudus this summer.

According to David Ornstein, Chelsea have made contact with Ajax to express their interest in signing Mohammed Kudus, however no offer has been submitted yet. An agreement is said to be close on agreeing personal terms with the player.

Arsenal are also said to be interested in signing Mohammed Kudus ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, however the Gunners need to sell players first before brining anyone else in.

Granit Xhaka has already left the club, however many more players are expected to follow suit before the end of the summer transfer window. Folarin Balogun, Kieran Tierney, Cedric, Sambi Lokonga and more have all been linked with moves away from North London.

The Gunners have had one of their busiest summer transfer windows in the clubs history after securing the signings of Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz with a total expenditure of around £200million so far this transfer window. Despite the money spent, Arsenal are reportedly not done with incomings just yet.

Arsenal missed out on the Premier League title due to a lack of squad depth last season and Mikel Arteta is determined to make sure the same doesn’t happen during the 2023/24 campaign. Another central midfielder is still wanted by the Arsenal boss, as well as cover for Bukayo Saka at right wing. Well what about if he could sign one player to cover both positions?

We all know versatility is one of Mikel Arteta’s key attributes when looking to sign a player and there’s not many out there more versatile than Ajax playmaker, Mohammed Kudus.

According to Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail, Arsenal are interested in Ajax’s £40million-rated midfielder Mohammed Kudus this summer as they aim to bring in two more signings before the summer window closes.

The 22-year-old made 30 appearances for Ajax in the Eredivisie last season, scoring 11 goals and recording 4 assists during the 2022/23 campaign. With the impressive season Kudus had, Arsenal won’t be the only team keeping a close eye on the player ahead of next season with Brighton always showing an interest in the player.

Kudus makes a lot of sense as a potential summer arrival at the Emirates Stadium. At just 22 years of age he fits the current transfer strategy Arsenal have employed of the last season of signing talented young players with high ceilings.

He can operate as a false nine, a winger or in a midfield role – the latter of which would likely be his preferred option in Arteta’s system. The Spaniard deploys his left-sided central midfielder in relatively advanced areas, often arriving in the box for cut-backs.
