Arsenal have reportedly suffered a setback in signing one of their midfield targets ahead of the January transfer window as according to reports in Brazil, Chelsea have now agreed a deal to sign Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Moscardo.

Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as many other big clubs around Europe, have shown an interest in signing the 18-year-old ahead of the January transfer window and now it appears the Blues have won the race for his signature.

According to one report in Brazil, Chelsea have agreed a deal in the region of £22million to sign the player from Corinthians in the January window which is set to open in just over a month.

Moscardo broke into the Corinthians first team earlier this year and has immediately shown his class at senior level which is the reason why so many big clubs have been after him.

The teenager, born in 2005, has made 16 appearances in the top division in Brazil already this season. To play so many games at such a young age will give Moscardo the experience he needs to be able to do it in one of Europe’s top leagues, once he leaves Corinthians which is expected to happen very soon.

It’s no secret Arsenal are after a midfielder ahead of the January transfer window after the long-term injury picked up by Thomas Partey earlier this season. It appears the club have missed out on Moscardo, however they still have many other targets they’re currently looking at which includes Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz.

Moscardo himself has spoken openly about a possible move to Europe, even name-dropping Chelsea as part of a diplomatic response: “There was a proposal from Chelsea months ago, but I talk a lot with my agent and my parents and they try to give me as little information as possible.

“They say there is not long until the end of the season, they tell me to dedicate myself and do well, and that at the end of the season, there will be good things.”
