Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter and stated that Arsenal are in talks to sign Chelsea forward Kai Havertz – and that the player is keen on the move.
It’s expected Chelsea could be flexible on their initial £75m asking price for Kai Havertz, which is considered too high by Arsenal. The player is keen on the move which could help Arsenal during negotiations. We suspect the Gunners will want to get a deal done for no more than £50million.
The German international does not want to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge and therefore could be allowed to leave this summer, if his valuation is met. Arsenal have sent their first proposal to Chelsea for Kai Havertz as well as making moves on their primary target, Declan Rice.
Kai Havertz current deal at Chelsea expires at the end of next season with many clubs around Europe keeping a close eye on the situation, one club being Arsenal.
Chelsea are in a difficult spot, a similar spot to which Arsenal found themselves in at the beginning of Mikel Arteta’s reign in North London. The Blues carry a wage budget on the same level as Manchester City however the difference is there will be no European football at Stamford Bridge next season after finishing 12th in the Premier League.

Chelsea have a bloated squad with an incredibly high wage budget after Todd Boehly spent over £600m in his first season as the owner of the club. The Blues reportedly need to recoup a significant amount of money in player sales this summer to cover some of the recent spending and avoid running afoul of Financial Fair Play. That means a number of big names, like Havertz, could be on the move this summer.
Clubs around Europe know Chelsea need to sell some big players and therefore they could be willing to accept lower fees than usual in order to get players out the door as quick as possible, which can only be good news for Arsenal.
If this move did come off, it would be a shock. Chelsea and Arsenal have been known to do business before, but it’s usually for players who are closer to the end of their career rather than their prime. The likes of Petr Cech and Jorginho joined The Gunners from their London rivals, but after spending the best years at Stamford Bridge.
However, with Havertz being just 24 years old, you’d suspect that he’s entering his prime in the next few years and Arsenal could benefit from that in the years to come.
