Barcelona legend Rivaldo has expressed concerns that Arsenal may miss out on signing Bruno Guimaraes this summer if Manchester City enter the race for the midfielder.

With Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge appearing to falter once again, attention is turning towards strengthening the squad in the upcoming transfer window. Midfield reinforcements are particularly crucial, given the uncertainty surrounding the futures of key players such as Thomas Partey and Jorginho.

Recent reports have indicated that Arsenal are considering a move to reignite their interest in Bruno Guimaraes, who has impressed during his time at Newcastle. The Brazil international was previously a target for Arsenal when he made the switch to Newcastle from Lyon two-and-a-half years ago.

However, Rivaldo believes that if Guimaraes decides to leave Newcastle, he may favour a move to Manchester City over Arsenal. Rivaldo stated to Betfair, “It’s clear that nowadays everyone wants to play for Manchester City because they have Pep Guardiola and a very tight and harmonious team. I believe that if Guimaraes leaves Newcastle, he will choose to go to Manchester City.”

Despite the potential competition from Manchester City, Arsenal have demonstrated their ability to secure top midfield targets in the past, with Declan Rice choosing to join Arsenal over City last summer. Rice has since made a significant impact in north London, and manager Mikel Arteta is confident that there is more to come from the talented midfielder.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s upcoming game against Bournemouth, Arteta praised Rice’s contribution, stating, “He’s been great. He’s had such an impact from day one… He’s really enthusiastic, eyes open, ears open, very willing to learn and take information.”

Arteta highlighted the importance of providing Rice with more opportunities to showcase his talent and build chemistry within the team. Despite his young age, Rice has already demonstrated maturity and composure on the field, and the Gunners hope to see further development from the promising midfielder in the seasons to come.
