Beşiktaş are rumoured to be considering a significant transfer during the mid-season window veteran Arsenal midfielder Jorginho on their shop list. The Italian midfielder has struggled with playing time at Arsenal and has been in the departure lounge this month, with reports suggesting that Jorginho’s agents have proposed the player to Beşiktaş.

As reported by Sercan Dikme, Jorginho, with his Arsenal contract expiring next June, is eager to join a team where he can play regularly with the European Championship coming up next summer.

Sources indicate that Beşiktaş has already made initial contact with the 32-year-old and negotiations are reportedly moving in a positive direction. With a market value of 15 million euros, Jorginho is seemingly seeking a fresh direction in his career.

Jorginho started his career at Hellas Verona and went on to play for Napoli and Chelsea. Having joined Arsenal in 2021, he has featured in 36 matches and earned 50 caps for the Italian national team. The midfielder is contemplating the transfer, recognising the importance of regular playtime to secure a spot in the Italy national team for EURO 2024.

Reports suggest that Beşiktaş are optimistic about signing Jorginho, and preliminary talks have been initiated. If the transfer materialises, Beşiktaş’s midfield, bolstered by the potential addition of Gedson Fernandes, could experience a significant boost. However, details regarding the progress and cost of the transfer remain undisclosed.

Currently, Declan Rice holds the primary role as Arsenal’s number six, with Jorginho serving as a reliable backup when needed. Despite Rice’s recent minor injury in the Crystal Palace match, reports suggest he is expected to be fit for the Nottingham Forest trip.

Given Rice’s injury and Thomas Partey’s ongoing recovery from a thigh injury since November, Jorginho remains a crucial deputy for the defensive midfield position. While Partey has returned to training and is expected to return soon, considering his injury history, Arsenal may be reluctant to part ways with Jorginho in the foreseeable future.

Jorginho’s agent, Joao Santos, has consistently affirmed the midfielder’s commitment to stay at Arsenal for the season. It wouldn’t be surprising if he dismisses the reported exit story once again.
