Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is setting his sights on reinforcing the team’s attacking department this summer, with one of his long-term targets, Raphinha, under close scrutiny.

The Gunners had previously attempted to secure the services of the Brazilian winger from Leeds in the summer of 2022, but their bid faced rejection from the Yorkshire club.

Despite interest from various teams, Raphinha opted for a move to Barcelona as part of a £55 million deal. However, the 27-year-old has not experienced a seamless stint in Spain, finding himself on the periphery of Barcelona’s lineup this season under Xavi. The Catalan boss has favoured Lamine Yamal on the right of his front three, limiting Raphinha’s playing time.

Given Barcelona’s financial struggles, the club may contemplate selling Raphinha this summer to generate funds for their transfer activities. Arsenal, still keen on signing the talented winger, is monitoring the situation closely.

Todofichajes reports that Arsenal have identified Raphinha as a top target for the upcoming summer transfer window. While talks and negotiations have not commenced, the report suggests that discussions will take place in the coming weeks. Barcelona are reportedly open to selling the Brazilian for a reasonable fee, likely less than the £55 million they paid for his services in 2022.

Raphinha’s potential move to Arsenal would provide additional depth to Arteta’s squad, although it’s noted that the winger would not be a guaranteed starter over Bukayo Saka. Whether this situation appeals to the Barcelona star, who faces a similar challenge in Spain, remains uncertain.

While no deal has been finalised, the prospect of Raphinha joining Arsenal is one to watch as the transfer window approaches. The Gunners have expressed interest in the player for an extended period, and developments in the coming weeks could shape the outcome of this long-standing pursuit.
