Aston Villa have reportedly secured a last-minute deal to acquire the services of Arsenal young talent, Lino Sousa, on a permanent basis. The 19-year-old left-back is scheduled to undergo a medical examination at Villa Park before officially signing for the club ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline.

Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Lino Sousa is on the verge of joining Aston Villa in a permanent deal this month. Romano further revealed that Sousa had attracted interest from other clubs, including Rangers, Galatasaray, and Juventus. However, it appears that Villa, led by former Arsenal manager Unai Emery, has emerged victorious in the pursuit of the highly-regarded teenager.

While the details of the financial aspects of the deal remain undisclosed, Romano did not confirm whether Villa would be paying a fee for Sousa, who has yet to make a first-team appearance for Arsenal.

The 19-year-old did spend time on the bench for a Premier League match last season. He was also an unused substitute in the recent FA Cup defeat to Liverpool.

Lino Sousa’s football journey began at West Brom before he joined the Arsenal Academy in 2022. Now, he seems poised to return to the Midlands with Aston Villa. Although he has trained with the first team on several occasions and was part of the squad for a 3-0 victory against Brentford last season, Sousa has not seen competitive action at senior level.

Sousa’s contract with Arsenal expires this summer, prompting speculation that the Gunners might be willing to part ways with him before a potential free transfer. With his limited first-team exposure, Sousa’s transfer fee will be minimal for Arsenal.

Arsenal faced a left-back shortage earlier in the year due to injuries to Oleksandr Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Jurrien Timber. In the absence of recognised left-back options, centre-back Jakub Kiwior was deployed on the left side of defense, while Sousa was unable to secure a spot in the starting lineup.
