Arsenal have reportedly shifted their attention to another Serie A striker following Victor Osimhen’s contract extension with Napoli. The latest player in their sights is Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic, a long-term target for the Gunners.
Arsenal attempted to sign the Serbian in the summer of 2022, before the club opted for Gabriel Jesus instead. However Mikel Arteta remains a huge fan of the player with the Gunners expected to reignite their interest in the striker this month.
According to Sky Sports journalist Gary Cotterill, Juventus appears willing to entertain a “cash-plus-player offer” for Vlahovic. The Serbian international, who initially declined a move to the Emirates, still garners admiration from Gunners boss Mikel Arteta for his talents.
Speaking on the potential deal, Cotterill revealed, “Not Ivan Toney because I don’t think Brentford will sell him in January. Another player, though, we know Mikel Arteta is a fan of is Dusan Vlahovic. Juventus wanted £50m, but that was too steep for Arsenal, but Juventus has financial problems.”
“It means both London clubs could end up fighting it out over Vlahovic if he is available for a reasonable price.”
Juventus’ openness to a swap deal may involve players like Thomas Partey and Charlie Patino. Partey, a long-standing interest for Juventus, could be considered in negotiations, while Patino’s potential move was under evaluation by the Serie A side over the weekend.
Earlier speculation about Vlahovic’s involvement in a swap deal with Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea’s lack of interest due to financial considerations might shift if Juventus revises their demands, suggests Cotterill’s report.
With both Arsenal and Chelsea eyeing striking reinforcements and considering various players, the situation surrounding Vlahovic’s availability for an attainable price could spark a tug-of-war between the London rivals.
Meanwhile, Arsenal continues to be linked with a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who will end his eight-month ban for breaching betting rules this month. Toney’s impressive track record, with 20 goals for Brentford last season in the Premier League, has attracted top clubs, including Arsenal, but Brentford are reportedly determined to retain their £100 million-rated star.
Brentford are determined to hold onto Toney following injury setbacks to Bryan Mbeumo, while Yoane Wissa is heading to the Africa Cup of Nations this month.
