A key Arsenal transfer target has publicly played down rumours of a possible move this summer, as two clubs circle to compete for his signature.

Martin Zubimendi, of Real Sociedad, has been heavily linked with a move to the Gunners for several transfer windows, and now German giants Bayern Munich are also said to be keen on his signing.

Speaking to Marca, the midfielder said: “I’m happy at Real Sociedad, it’s my home. I can’t say I will be here for the rest of my career, because maybe in the future Real Sociedad won’t want me to continue here.

“I’m not bothered about those rumours.”

The 25-year-old had been rumoured to be very keen on working alongside his Spanish compatriot Xabi Alonso, had he become Bayern Munich’s new manager next season, but with Alonso now staying at Bayer Leverkusen, Zubimendi’s future looks all but certain.

His comments playing down a move come just days after sensational links emerged paring Arsenal with a move for Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes – who is reported to have a £100m release clause.

Arsenal have also been linked once again with a move for another Brazilian, Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz – perhaps an indication that there are concerns over a deal for Zubimendi.

If Arsenal were to pursue a move for the Spaniard, he is thought to have a £52.6m (€60m) release clause, which could make him a more affordable option for the Gunners – who are hoping to upgrade several positions this summer.
