Arsenal are preparing a tempting offer of €60million to sign World Cup winner Julian Alvarez from Manchester City, according to reports.

The Gunners, who secured Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from City last season, are eyeing another raid on the Etihad for the Argentine striker.

Alvarez joined Manchester City in 2022 from River Plate for a fee in the region of £14m (€17m) and signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with Pep Guardiola’s side.

Seeking regular playing time at the club level to solidify his place in the national team, Alvarez finds himself playing second fiddle to Erling Haaland at Manchester City. With limited opportunities, the 23-year-old is keen to secure a starting role, and Arsenal could provide the platform he desires.

The Gunners’ center-forward position is currently contested by the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and Eddie Nketiah. It is believed that Folarin Balogun, who returned from a successful loan spell in France last season, is likely to leave the club in search of regular first-team opportunities.

Mikel Arteta, who previously worked under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, is determined to strengthen his Arsenal squad ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. The signing of Kai Havertz has already been completed, with Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber set to be officially announced in the coming days. However, Arteta is not resting on his laurels and reportedly intends to return to Manchester City to sign Julian Alvarez.

Catalan outlet El Nacional reports that Arsenal is targeting the signing of Julian Alvarez, with the potential deal estimated to be worth €60 million. While Guardiola’s side values Alvarez at €80 million, Arsenal aim to negotiate a more favorable agreement.

During his debut season in England, Alvarez, who played a crucial role as Argentina’s starting No. 9 in their World Cup triumph, scored 16 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions. However, a significant portion of his playing time came from the substitutes’ bench, limiting his overall minutes.

With Arsenal’s ambition to bolster their attacking options, securing the services of Julian Alvarez would provide Arteta with another talented forward capable of making an impact on the pitch.
