Arsenal are set to battle it out with Brighton over the signing of Dutch versatile defender this summer.

It’s been reported the Gunners are interested in acquiring Devyne Rensch from Ajax ahead of next season.

Arsenal are in the market for quality in depth this summer as the Gunners are set for a return to the Champions League next season for the first time since 2016/17. In defence Mikel Arteta is after a young right-back, as well as a player who can cover for William Saliba at right centre-back.

Devyne Rensch isn’t the only option the Gunners are looking at, with Ivan Fresneda also on the list, as well as other players.

The 20-year old defender has had an impressive season in the Eredivisie this season with the player on the radar of many European clubs going into the summer window, including Arsenal. It’s looking increasingly likely he will leave Ajax after this season.

Although he usually operates as a right-back, he is very capable of playing in the center of the defence as well as at left-back as well. It seems like Mikel Arteta is big fan of the Dutchman’s versatility as he can play anywhere across the back line.

As it stands the biggest interest is being shown by Brighton, who are in pole position to sign the 20-year-old if he decides to leave Dutch giants Ajax ahead of next season, according to FootMercato.

His biggest qualities include his ball-playing ability, fantastic reading of the game and efficiency in the final third.

So far this season he has made 22 appearances in the Eredivisie, scoring three times and assisting once, with an average rating of 7.22, according to FotMob.

Brighton are currently leading the race for Devyne Rensch, however Arsenal are keeping a close eye on the situation with the summer transfer window just around the corner.
