Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign Sporting CP in-form Sweden international striker, Viktor Gyokores, who is expected to leave the Portuguese giant this summer.

According to recent reports, the 25-year-old attacker is poised for a surprise new contract that will increase his release clause, with Sporting CP aiming to secure a significant fee for their prized asset.

Arsenal have been one of the main admirers of the striker and has been monitoring his performances and progress over time in the search for a top-quality No. 9 to fill the shoes of Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, who have been battling with injuries and have not been at their best for a long time now.

New reports in Portugal claim that Gyokores’ agents have travelled to Lisbon to discuss a new deal that will increase the release clause of the striker by 40 percent.

According to the Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Sporting Lisbon are fully aware that a record sale is on the cards for the summer transfer window. The same source adds that Gyokores, who is rumoured to have had a price tag of £50 million and may see the price increased if his agent can land him a better deal.

If the new contract is sealed, Arsenal will surely need to step up their bid if they are to bring the Sweden international to the Emirates Stadium next season.

Chelsea is also rumoured to be preparing another big-money offer for the striker. Chelsea made a bid for the Swedish player in January, which Sporting Lisbon rejected.
