Youri Tielemans is another highlight of this January transfer window as his contract is set to expire in 6 months which would mean that clubs now have the option to directly negotiate with Belgian International. This would allow to Tielemans leave Leicester City on a free transfer to any club that approaches him.

Tielemans was heavily linked with Arsenal in the summer transfer window, but as the transfer window closed shut, the deal did not go through and the main reason for this was that Arsenal were willing to wait for the player to be available for a free transfer.

Mikel Arteta was mainly interested in the player due to the fact that Arsenal were dealt with an injury blow to two of their midfielders, Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny and Arteta saw Tielemans as a suitable player to fill that hole in midfield.

However, Arsenal failed to sign a midfielder in the summer transfer window, their main two targets were said to be Youri Tielemans and Douglas Luiz, who did not see a move to the Emirates as he extended his contract with Aston Villa.

CBS sports journalist Ben Jacobs says that Arsenal’s reported interest in the player hasn’t gone away, with Leicester City Manager, Brendan Rogers confirming that there has been “no movement whatsoever” on talks about extending Tielemans’ contract with Leicester City.

Mikel Arteta is a big fan of the Belgium & it wouldn’t be a surprise if Arsenal pick him up on a free at the end of the season. It’s definitely one to keep an eye on.
