Reports emerge suggesting that promising Arsenal midfielder Charlie Patino has signalled his departure from the club as long as Mikel Arteta remains in charge.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who has spent consecutive seasons on loan in the Championship, appears to have lost favour with his current club, Swansea City.

Patino’s recent stint at Swansea has seen him make 32 Championship appearances, contributing three goals and four assists. However, his omission from the starting lineup in four of the last six league games has sparked speculation about his future. Italian clubs Juventus and Roma have expressed keen interest in acquiring the talented midfielder, with a move to Serie A reportedly appealing to Patino.

With his Arsenal contract set to expire at the end of the season, Patino could become available on a free transfer if he opts against signing an extension. Sources suggest that Patino has made it clear he has ‘no intention of playing under Mikel Arteta’ and is poised to seek opportunities elsewhere.

While the precise reasons behind Patino’s decision remain undisclosed, Juventus and Roma are reportedly frontrunners in securing his services. The involvement of highly-rated Italian scout Michele Fratini, credited with discovering Patino, further fuels speculation of a move to Serie A.

Although Fulham has shown interest in the youngster, Patino’s preference for a move to Italy could see him snub other potential suitors. His potential departure could mark the beginning of an exodus at Arsenal, with other players such as Kieran Tierney, Eddie Nketiah, Jorginho, Thomas Partey, and Aaron Ramsdale also considering exits.

Speaking in January, Patino was asked about transfer speculations and he insisted that his focus was on the current campaign with Swansea.

“Whatever happens, happens for me – I just take everything day by day,” he said. “I don’t really look too much towards the end of the season right now. I’m here with Swansea now and I want to help them try and get into the play-offs and contribute to as many goals and assists as possible – and to get as many wins as possible.

“We’ve got 18 games left, still a lot of time to keep showing the player I am and keep improving. I don’t want to say if I’m ready (to play a part in the first team at Arsenal), but I’ll take it daily and I’m here with Luke and the staff – let’s see what happens.”

Charlie Patino just created problem for himself. He needs room to learn the game, not what he feels it’s right.
