Arsenal is reportedly eyeing a potential reunion with former academy prospect Donyell Malen, with plans to send scouts to watch the Borussia Dortmund star in action in the coming weeks.

Malen spent two years at Arsenal’s academy and desired first-team opportunities in 2017, but Arsene Wenger did not deem him ready for senior football. When the striker decided to leave, the former Gunners boss sold him to PSV for just £500,000.

According to recent reports, Malen has emerged as a target for the Gunners as they seek to bolster their attacking options ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Dutch forward’s impressive performances for Borussia Dortmund, where he has scored 12 goals across all competitions this season, have caught the attention of Arsenal’s hierarchy.

GiveMeSport claims that Edu Gaspar has decided to send scouts to watch Malen play for Dortmund against the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern Munich, and Bayer Leverkusen in the coming weeks.

That notwithstanding, Malen is not considered the first name on Arsenal’s wish list, but he is viewed as a cost-effective option in the summer as he will be available for just £26 million.

Despite leaving Arsenal for PSV Eindhoven in 2017, Malen recently expressed his fondness for the North London club, naming them as his preferred destination if given the opportunity to return.

The Borussia Dortmund forward was asked by Voetbal Zone to mention one club he would love to join when he leaves Signal Iduna Park, and he responded: “I went to Arsenal so yes, them. I want Arsenal, my favourite club. Yes [about returning there]. I played there in my youth, I really wanted to break through there so yes.”

With Arsenal looking to add depth to their attacking lineup, Malen is seen as a cost-effective option, with reports suggesting that he could be available for a fee of £26 million.

While Malen may not be the top priority on Arsenal’s wish list, he represents a viable option for the club, given his proven quality and potential to thrive in the Premier League.

As Arsenal continues to assess potential targets ahead of the summer window, the scouting mission for Malen signals their intent to explore all available options to strengthen their squad for the challenges ahead.
