Arsenal are reportedly keeping a close eye on Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) winger Xavi Simons, despite missing out on signing him during the summer transfer window.

The Gunners have a long-standing admiration for the 20-year-old Dutch maestro, who gained attention from top European clubs after an impressive stint with PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands.

During the summer of 2022, Arsenal’s attempt to secure Simons was thwarted by a secret transfer clause, allowing PSG, who had previously sold the player, to re-purchase him for a meager €6 million (£5.1 million). Subsequently, Simons was loaned to RB Leipzig in Germany. Despite this setback, Arsenal remains keen on the talented youngster, recently sending scouts to observe Simons and other Bundesliga players, as reported by HITC.

While PSG seems content with Simons’ development on loan, accumulating seven goals and nine assists in 27 appearances for Leipzig this season, the French giants have no intention of cutting short the loan or entertaining permanent offers in the current transfer window. If Arsenal aims to secure the former Barcelona academy graduate, they will need to be patient.

Despite openness to squad strengthening, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has suggested his team has the required quality and depth to push Manchester City for the title. Arteta expressed confidence in the current squad, emphasising the importance of supporting and trusting the existing players for optimal performance.

After a convincing 5-0 victory against Crystal Palace over the weekend, Arteta stated, “We’re going to try our best and what we have to do is love our players and make sure that they feel trusted and they have the confidence because when a player lives like this, he can get to a level that you can never imagine. If he’s doubting and hearing too many things, that’s not helpful and we will love the players that we have.”
