Arsenal are set to be in the market for a centre-back this upcoming transfer window with it being one area Mikel Arteta is keen to add some quality in depth in, especially with the return of Champions League football next season.

One name which has been speculated to be on Edu’s shopping list this summer is Crystal Palace defender, Marc Guehi.

Arsenal already have a strong core of English talent within the squad with the likes of Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White and Bukayo Saka and it looks like Mikel Arteta is keen to add more ahead of the next season.

The fall from first place in the Premier League table for Arsenal this campaign has largely come down to the absence of French defender William Saliba and a lack of squad depth in the centre back area to fill his boots in his absence.

William Saliba suffered a lower back injury against Sporting in the Europa League and is now expected to miss the rest of the season which has seen the Gunners’ form drop off dramatically over the last few games which has given Manchester City the advantage in the title race.

The Arsenal boss is clearly keen to make sure the same thing doesn’t occur next season.

The Arsenal camp will now be set to enter the summer transfer window searching for adequate depth to bolster the squad. Youngster Marc Guehi is a name which could comfortably add a great deal of competition to the likes of Gabriel and Saliba as the Daily Express claim that Guehi ‘interests’ Mikel Arteta.

The proven Premier League defender has 69 league appearances under his belt for the South London outfit Crystal Palace. From rising through the Chelsea ranks, spending two years on loan at Swansea to becoming a Premier League proven centre back.

The robust England international however has his contract at the Eagles set until 2026 which will therefore allow Palace to ask for a substantial fee if willing to sell their star defender. The amount of game time the Gunners could offer Guehi could also have an impact on whether the deal will get done this summer.

There are many factors which will need to be considered from both parties before a deal is agreed however Marc Guehi applying his trade in North London is definitely a move which could answer Arsenal’s defensive worries ahead of next season.

Marc Guehi isn’t the only Crystal Palace star Arsenal are looking at ahead of next season, with the Gunners also preparing a move for Michael Olise this summer.

The 21-year-old has been a regular starter for Crystal Palace this season, making 30 appearances in the Premier League. He’s scored two goals, recorded eight assists and has impressed everyone with his performances.
