After being linked to the Danish striker on several occasions with La Repubblica previously reporting that Arsenal had been keeping tabs on the striker’s performances in Serie A this season, we’ve now had an update…

It’s now being reported that Arsenal are set to battle it out with Newcastle for Rasmus Hojlund with Tuttoatalanta stating that:

‘Arsenal and Newcastle are ready to pay up to 50 million euros to sign Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund in the summer.’

Rasmus Hojlund is a 20-year-old striker playing football in the Serie A for Atalanta. He signed with the Italian club from Strum Graz in a deal worth £15m in 2022 and is already gaining interest from clubs all around Europe after impressing at the start of this season.

The natural-born finisher has already claimed seven goals to his name in the current Serie A season and there isn’t any sign of him slowing down. Duvan Zapata isn’t getting any younger and Atalanta wants to hold onto their man as long as possible hence the considerable sum paid to gain the Danes’ signature.

As the days count closer to the Summer transfer window, the links with the Dane striker grow ever stronger and if Arsenal is willing to go toe-to-toe with the Toon, Arsenal may get there very own Erling Halaand.

Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini also has had good words to say about the Danish striker this season, comparing him to Manchester City’s Erling Halaand:

“Hojlund has this spirit, energy, intensity, but also technical quality that is just remarkable. He still has so much margin for improvement too. He has very similar characteristics to Haaland, not just his face.

He is so quick, he’s under 11 seconds over 100 metres and that’s not even trying very hard. Considering his height, he has a low centre of gravity and can move his legs very fast. I am convinced he’ll have a great career, he just gets stronger every day.”
