Arsenal are intensifying their pursuit of midfield reinforcements as concerns arise over the feasibility of a deal for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi. With ambitions to bolster their midfield options this summer, the Gunners have identified Zubimendi as a prime target, although complications loom over his potential transfer.

While Arsenal’s interest in Zubimendi persists, they are exploring alternative options due to the complexity surrounding the Spanish midfielder’s situation. Bruno Guimaraes and Douglas Luiz have emerged as potential candidates, yet both Aston Villa and Newcastle United are showing reluctance to part ways with their respective midfield talents. Consequently, Arsenal are broadening their scope and considering additional targets to bolster their midfield ranks.

Zubimendi, who has attracted attention from European giants Barcelona and Bayern Munich, remains undecided on his future. Despite the allure of opportunities abroad, the 25-year-old holds sentimental ties to Real Sociedad, his boyhood club, and harbours aspirations of playing under his idol, Xabi Alonso. However, with Alonso committing to Bayer Leverkusen for another season, Zubimendi faces a pivotal decision regarding his next career move.

The midfield landscape at Arsenal could undergo significant changes this summer, contingent upon potential departures. Mohamed Elneny’s contract expiration has piqued interest from clubs in Europe and Saudi Arabia, while discussions with Jorginho regarding a new deal remain unresolved. Additionally, Thomas Partey’s contract situation has put him on the radar of clubs in Saudi Arabia, adding further complexity to Arsenal’s midfield planning.

As Arsenal gears up for a busy summer, manager Mikel Arteta underscored the club’s commitment to progression. “We have a few ideas,” Arteta stated, emphasising Arsenal’s relentless pursuit of improvement.

“That is what this team, this club and our people are demanding – to keep moving forward, in a ruthless way, because we are not satisfied with where we are.”

With aspirations of sustained success, Arsenal are poised for an active transfer window as they strive to propel the club forward.
